Five Things You Should Do This Weekend in Boise

When you aren’t making last-minute Valentine’s Day restaurant reservations

1. FREAK OUT AT THE MUSEUM
Boise Art Museum has two new exhibits with a dark edge. You can check out “Vampires and Wolf Men” Feb. 1 to May 25 and “Night Hunter House” (shown below at the Denver Art Museum) now through June 8.

2. GET IN THE MOOD AT THE MODE
Downtown Boise has a new nightclub. The Mode Lounge has opened in the former Grape Escape spot at 8th and Idaho streets. With classic decor, craft cocktails and a vibrant menu of “small plates, big flavors,” it’s definitely trying to offer something different. [More]

3. TAKE THE RUGRATS TO THE KIDS EXPO
Slides, fun houses, face painting — you get the picture. The Canyon County Kids Expo will take over the Idaho Cen … uh, Ford Arena from 10 a.m.  to 6 p.m. Saturday. It’s $4 adult, $2 child. [Tickets] Here’s video from last year …

4. SUPPORT THE STAMPEDE
No Broncos. No Steelheads. It’s all Stampede this weekend. Idaho’s pro basketball team takes on the Los Angeles D-Fenders at 7 p.m. tonight and Saturday. They’ll be wearing pink jerseys — to raise breast cancer awareness — and donating them to an online charity auction for St. Luke’s Mountain States Tumor Institute, which will use the cash to provide mammograms for those in need. 5. GET A JUMP ON THE OSCARS
Short attention span? Perfect. Hit The Flicks theater in Boise for “The Oscar Nominated Short Films 2014: Animated.” Here’s the trailer from one of the shorts, “Feral,” a 13-minute odyssey.
