Sun Valley area fires cause cancellation of writers’ conference and final summer symphony concerts

The storied Sun Valley Writers’ Conference is canceled this year “due to the significant, health, safety, and travel risks caused by forest fires in the Hailey-Ketchum-Sun Valley area,” the board wrote on its website.

The conference was scheduled for Aug. 23-26. This year’s attendees included Billy Collins, Aleksanar Hemon, Kevin Powers, Greg Carr and Maria Semple.

Check its website for refund information or how to turn your ticket into a donation. Next year will be the 20th Sun Valley Writers’ Conference.

The Sun Valley Summer Symphony also canceled the remainder of its season on Aug. 16. It was slated to run through Aug. 20.
