Ed task force releases final report

Gov. Butch Otter’s Task Force on Improving Education issued its final report Wednesday afternoon, hours before the chairman will discuss its work with a legislative interim committee on education Thursday morning..

The final report reiterates support for lawmakers to restore $82.5 million district have lost since 2009 through legislative budget cuts. Restoration of the funds could be completed over five years at about $16.5 million a year, the task force says.

The task force also wants to boost teacher salaries, along with more evaluation of educators, in a loosely drawn proposal that could cost up to $250 million.

Total recommendation were reduced by one to 20 when to two overlapping proposals on educator professional development were combined.

Gov. Butch Otter has endorsed the recommendations.
