The Eagle City Council voted to raise its own pay, as well as the mayor’s salary, according to Council member Mary Defayette. The council held a public hearing before opting for the pay increases.
The council, which discussed raises in June but did not make a final decision until Tuesday, raised its own pay from $5,610 to $9,000.
Defayette told the Statesman that the pay increase wasn’t so much a raise, as a reinstatement of pay that council members received before 2008. Due to budget woes, the council slashed their own pay, reducing it from $11,220 to $5,610.
The council also voted to increase the council president’s pay from $7,012 to $10,800. The mayor’s salary was raised from $42,000 to $50,000, which is $10,000 less than what was proposed. The pay raises will take effect in Jan. 1, 2014.
