Date set for Morrison’s community memorial

Philanthropist Velma Morrison’s community memorial will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 22 at the Velma V. Morrison Center for the Performing Arts, 2201 Cesar Chavez Lane, on Boise State University’s campus. Morrison, who spearheaded the effort to build the largest proscenium stage in Idaho in the 1970s and ’80s, died June 20. The event will include a performance by the Boise Philharmonic with a special guest performer and a program of speakers. Morrison’s life also was celebrated at a service at The Cathedral of the Rockies on July 17. The Sept. 22 event also will remember Fred Norman who helped build the center and became its first executive director. Norman died July 2. Check back for more details as the date gets closer.

Velma Morrison celebrated her 91st birthday with a party in Ann Morrison Park. Her late husband Harry Morrison built the park in 1957 to honor his first wife Ann Daly Morrison in 1957. He married Velma in 1959.
