Idaho Sen. Mike Crapo, will be one of 21 members of the U.S. Senate who will serve on the conference committee that will reconcile budgets from the Senate and the House by Dec. 13 under the compromise approved Wednesday to reopen the government.

Crapo, who voted against the compromise, is a member of the Senate Budget Committee and that entitles him to a seat at conference. Long a supporter of a long term plan to reform entitlements and tax codes to put the nation on a path toward a balanced budget, he said he hopes this process takes us there.

“For far too long, Washington has come to rely on short-term spending measures that do not allow for meaningful and significant reform of our spending habits,” Crapo said in a press release.

Crapo voted against the Senate budget earlier this year that was $90 billion higher than the House version.

“I believe there are ideas and policies in both versions that we can mutually agree on and start the process of putting us on a sustainable fiscal path,” he said.
