Boise’s Ron Burgundy impersonator to appear on Katie Couric’s show

Local TV anchor Paul Gerke became a viral sensation when his Halloween Ron Burgundy impression hit YouTube.

This week, the KIVI Channel 6/KNIN Channel 9 sports director hung out with the real Burgundy. Gerke joined actor Will Ferrell for a taping of Katie Couric’s syndicated talk show “Katie.”

The episode is scheduled to air at 4 p.m. Monday, Dec. 23 — ironically, on KTVB’s 24/7 Channel.

Gerke, 26, who came to the Treasure Valley last year from a station in tiny Alpena, Mich., has a contract that ends in June — so it’s fairly likely that his stint as “Boise’s Burgundy” will come to an end next summer. His dream job is ESPN, he says.

In other news, Couric’s show will not have a third season. And “Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues,” which opens tomorrow, isn’t as good as the original — but does have some big, dumb laughs.
