Centennial High’s Tuma named outstanding wrestler at national event

Hayden Tuma, a junior at Centennial High, was selected as the outstanding wrestler recently at the ASICS Junior Nationals Greco-Roman competition in Las Vegas.

Tuma won the 60 KG title and didn’t have any points scored on him in four matches. He also took fifth in freestyle going up against wrestlers ages 17-20.

Tuma’s Greco-Roman win means he will receive the No. 1 position at the Junior World Team Trials on June 20-23 in Stillwater, Okla.

Centennial teammate Jon Jay Chavez finished third in Greco at 70 KG and fourth in freestyle.

Eagle High track team finishes third at Oregon Relays

The Mustangs were a point shy of finishing second in the co-ed standings at a meet that included more than 90 teams in Eugene.

Winning events for Eagle were: Allison Jefferies (girls pole vault, 12-5); James Heckendorn (boys 400, 48.82); Edmund Ellis, Clay Watts, Gabe Harm and Heckendorn (boys 4×400 relay, 3:22.15); Kylee Coffin, Kinsey Keene, Brittany Rawlins and Jefferies (girls 4×100 relay, 48.52).
