Lee Neumann has coached the Patriots for the past 24 seasons and is the longest tenured coach in the 5A Southern Idaho Conference.

He compiled a record of 168-83 with three state championships and five state title appearances at Centennial.

“I just wanted to have some time to take a break from it and the coaching part of it. All the little details that go into coaching,” Neumann said. “It sounds cliche-ish, and it will be, but I want to spend some time with my wife and my family that I have neglected for 20-some seasons.”

Neumann, 54, said he will continue teaching physical education at Centennial and may pursue an administration job.

“You never know, I may coach again or a I may not, but right now I just need a break from it,” Neumann said. “I may possibly do something different or do nothing.”

See Wednesday’s Idaho Statesman for more on Neumann’s resignation.
