Calling all Idaho authors!

Did you know there’s not one, but TWO great organizations that work to connect, promote, and encourage Idaho authors?

They are the Idaho Writers Guild and the Idaho Author’s Community, and they’re constantly hosting and organizing events. Here are two to get you started this month:

The Idaho Writers Guild will be holding their monthly Literary Lunch (The Business of Writing) Tuesday, February 19th from 11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. at the Smoky Mountain Pizza located at 415 E Parkcenter Boulevard in Boise. Kathy McIntosh–author, freelance editor, and speaker–will be talking about the business of writing and how it relates to the marketing of novels in her presentation titled, Multi-pronged Marketing for Your Books (or How to Avoid Getting Stuck on a Tine). This event is open to the public, so come to network and connect with other Idaho writers!

The Idaho Authors’ Community is another great organization to get involved with and they’re always looking to connect with authors and venues in ALL 44 Idaho Counties.

A rising tide benefits all ships” is the philosophy behind a new organization of Idaho authors. The Idaho Authors’ Community was formed in late 2012 to help Idaho authors and authors-to-be learn how to market their books more effectively. IAC co-founder Jane Freund said the group is founded on the idea that a team approach makes marketing easier. “Most authors are much more comfortable writing books than they are marketing their work. In the IAC, we work together to make the marketing process less scary.”

This strategy has worked well as the IAC had three group book signings in late 2012 with authors selling books, meeting new readers and learning how to publicize their events. Now the Idaho Authors’ Community is building on that success and reaching out to authors and readers in all 44 Idaho counties. In addition, the IAC will be holding book signings in all 44 counties in 2013. “Idaho has many terrific authors and we want to help connect them with readers. Also, the IAC is committed to helping the Idaho economy by encouraging people to support Idaho authors and venues” commented Freund.

The Idaho Author Community is open to any Idaho resident who is a published author trying to increase sales of an existing book or wanting to create better markets for a future book(s or an author ready to publish his or her first book. The purpose of the Idaho Author Community is to work together to help Idaho readers and writers. IAC members encourage authors to be committed to their own success and that of their fellow authors. IAC dues are $50 per year for adults and $25 per year for students (if under 18, students must have parental permission to join).

The IAC will be holding book signings in all 44 Idaho counties in 2013 and are looking for places and events that would accommodate such gatherings. If you have ideas for book signing events in your area or know people interested in becoming part of the Idaho Authors’ Community, contact Jane Freund or Wynette Mellen at idahoauthorscommunity@gmail.com or 208-407-7457(Jane Freund).

And don’t forget to mark your calendars for the upcoming Idaho Writers & Readers Rendezvous organized by the Idaho Writers Guild. C.J. Box is the headliner for the event, along with several authors, editors, agents, screenwriters, publishers, and other industry professionals. More information will follow as the date draws nearer, but in the meantime, feel free to check out the website at www.IdahoRendezvous.com.
