The Kentucky men’s basketball team announced its nonconference schedule Wednesday, and it includes a game against Boise State on Tuesday, Dec. 10 in Lexington, Ky.
The Wildcats are early favorites to be the No. 1 team in the nation to begin the 2013-14 season. Boise State athletic director Mark Coyle came to the Broncos from Kentucky.
“We want to continue to build on what Coach (Leon) Rice and his staff have accomplished in their time at Boise State,” Coyle said in a statement. “Scheduling marquee games that will draw interest nationally is part of that process.”
A source told the Idaho Statesman last month the game would be a one-time contest, with no return game in Boise expected. Here is my story from April 20 on the news the Broncos were talking with the Wildcats.
Boise State’s nonconference slate now includes road games at Kentucky and New Orleans, home games against Utah, Seattle and Texas-Arlington, along with an appearance at the Diamond Head Classic in Honolulu (Dec. 22-25). Boise State said it will announce the rest of its nonconference games at a later date.
Kentucky is the No. 1 team on CBSSports.com’s early preseason rankings, while Boise State is No. 25.
The Boise State-Kentucky matchup was met with some enthusiasm from SI.com’s Andy Glockner on Twitter:
