Isaiah Wright of Borah High was selected as the 2013-14 Gatorade Idaho Boys Basketball Player of the Year on Friday.
The 6-foot-2 senior point guard averaged 17.8 points, 9.9 rebounds, 5.1 assists and 2.7 steals per game while shooting nearly 80 percent from the free-throw line, leading the Lions (19-8) to the 5A state championship game for the third year in a row.
Wright, the state’s reigning Gatorade and 5A All-Idaho player of the year, scored 18 points with seven rebounds and seven assists in Borah’s 63-53 loss to Capital in the state final. He missed 10 games this season while recovering from a broken right wrist.
“Isaiah Wright is the most complete player I’ve seen in this state in my 23 years as a coach,” said Meridian High coach Mike Graefe. “He is a true leader and a terrific player. There is nobody else who is even close.”
Wright has signed to play basketball on an athletic scholarship at the University of Utah starting this fall.
