In 2013, a group of artists, Whittier parents, students and others from the neighborhood met at the school to start talking about how to create an aesthetically pleasing boundary for the school grounds in anticipation of Whitewater Park Boulevard. The boulevard borders the western edge of the school’s field.
Over the summer, the Capital City Development Corporation) donated $10,000 thousand to the project. The Veterans Park Neighborhood Assn. also received a $38,000 Neighborhood Reinvestment grant from the City of Boise.
In December, a panel selected metal artists Margo and Dennis Proska of Pocatello to work with the community to design an artistic piece for the boundary.
City officials say the new work will be installed by May, 2015.
