Boise teen ties for second in junior chess championships

Boise math and chess wiz Luke Harmon-Vellotti, who I wrote about recently as he prepares to go to UCLA at age 14, has tied for second place in the U.S. Junior Closed Chess Championships in St. Louis.  The event is invitation only to those under age 21. He was among 10 competitors and won $1,750.

First prize, and $3,000, went to Daniel Naroditsky, 17, of Foster City, Calif.

Read my story on Luke’s college plans here.
