A few hours after Boise State officially signed 6-foot-10 junior college transfer Kevin Allen on Tuesday, an even taller addition verbally committed to the Broncos.
Zach Haney, a 6-11, 222-pound center out of Atascocita High near Houston, said late Tuesday night he has committed to the Broncos’ 2014 class. Haney said he turned down offers from Oregon State, Nevada, Stephen F. Austin, Georgia and Georgia Tech.
Haney cited the program’s growth and the culture the coaching staff has created as reasons for his commitment. Haney said his strengths are his work ethic and ability to play inside and out (he has developed a good 3-point shot, too).
The Broncos officially announced the signing of Allen on Tuesday morning, and added 6-9 Texas forward David Wacker and 6-7 California wing Chandler Hutchison in November.
With the addition of Haney, who is expected to officially sign soon, the Broncos have 14 players on scholarship — the Division I limit is 13. That means someone from last season’s roster that was not a senior will leave the program this offseason. With Haney’s expected addition, here is the current class breakdown:
