Dylan Sumner-Gardner, a safety out of West Mesquite (Texas) High, has changed his verbal commitment from Texas A&M to Boise State, he said on his Twitter account.
Marcel Yates, Boise State’s new defensive coordinator, was Texas A&M’s co-defensive coordinator the last two seasons. Sumner-Gardner is expected to enroll at Boise State in time for the spring semester.
Sumner-Gardner (6-2, 200) is ranked as Scout.com’s No. 8 safety and Rivals.com’s No. 10 safety. He is a four-star recruit, according to all major recruiting sites. He also is considered one of the top 100 recruits nationally — he is ranked No. 83 by 247Sports.com, No. 86 by Rivals, No. 93 by ESPN.com and No. 95 by Scout.
Sumner-Gardner had offers from Auburn, Baylor, LSU and Texas, among others. He also had been committed to Clemson before changing to Texas A&M last year.
The commitment not only seemed to energize the fanbase, but Sumner-Gardner’s future teammates, too. Running back Jay Ajayi tweeted about it Saturday night.
