Boise State draws tough opener at Diamond Head with high-scoring Hawaii (w/video)

It doesn’t exactly get easier for Boise State after back-to-back losses at Kentucky and against undefeated Saint Mary’s.

The 8-2 Broncos open play at the Diamond Head Classic on Sunday facing the hosting 7-2 Hawaii Warriors at 11 p.m. MT.

Hawaii is 5-1 at home this season, its only loss to New Mexico State. The team’s only other loss was a 92-80 loss against Missouri on Nov. 16 — the Tigers are currently ranked No. 23 in the AP poll. The Broncos and Warriors are tied for 12th nationally with 86.4 points per game apiece.

“They’ve been playing really good basketball … you’ve got two exciting styles,” Boise State coach Leon Rice said. “I think it’s going to be a high-scoring affair.”

Boise State is 211th in field goal percentage defense (44.2 percent) and Hawaii is 118th (41.9).

“They’re a highly efficient team, got great shooters, got great offensive action and don’t turn it over,” Hawaii coach Gib Arnold said.
