Boise shelter puts out urgent call for cat food to serve pets of home-bound seniors

Do you have an extra bag of cat food you could donate to the pet of a home-bound senior?

Volunteers with the Pet Food Pantry at the Idaho Humane Society deliver food to pets of 200 seniors each month. Deliveries are to begin this weekend, but more food is needed. In particular, the pantry is requesting smaller bags of 8 to 10 pounds (because they’re easier for seniors to handle).

Last year, the community donated 38,000 pounds of pet food. The pantry runs low on food from time to time — the last time a call was put out for donations was November.

Drop donations off at the shelter at 4775 Dorman St. in Boise or at the IHS PetSmart Adoption Center at 130 N. Milwaukee St in Boise.

Make a monetary donation online at Idaho Humane Society and follow the “donate” tab. Specify “Pet Food Pantry” for donation type.
