Boise mayor, students at Whitney Elementary launch five-day walking challenge

Mayor Dave Bieter and local schoolchildren will launch a five-day school walking challenge at 11 a.m. Monday, April 21, at Whitney Elementary School.

The school is at 1609 Owyhee St. in Boise.

The walking challenge is part of the “Let’s Move with FitOne” school challenge April 21 through 25. The goal of that project is to improve the health of kids by encouraging them to walk to school, parks, around their neighborhoods and to other destinations.

Let’s Move Boise and FitOne in conjunction with Unplug and Be Outside week are the hosts of the challenges.

Participating schools are eligible to earn cash prizes for PE equipment. FitOne will award $250 to the schools logging the most miles walked and the highest percentage of participation.
