Boise City Council will consider appeal on proposed 10-acre Idaho Humane Society campus

In May, Boise’s Planning & Zoning Commission approved a conditional use permit for the Idaho Humane Society’s proposed 10-acre complex on Overland Road near Walmart. Now that decision is being appealed to the Boise City Council.

The council will  consider the appeal Tuesday, as well as the planning commission’s recommendation to approve the annexation of the 9.7-acre parcel of property at 8506 W. Overland Road. All of the surrounding property is in the city limits.

The council meets at 6 p.m. Tuesday in the third floor council chambers at City Hall, 150 Capitol Blvd.

Those who spoke against the project at the May 6 planning and zoning hearing expressed concerns about the competition with veterinarian clinics in the area and lack of property tax revenue from the nonprofit. Some said it would be better if located more to the west, and a couple residents near the proposed site had concerns about the height of the buildings.
