Bishop Kelly’s Ogata commits to Utah baseball

Bowen Ogata made an official visit to the University of Utah over the weekend, and came home thinking it was the place for him.

The two-time 4A Southern Idaho Conference baseball player of the year from Bishop Kelly gave a verbal commitment to Utes coach Bill Kinneberg Sunday night.

“It is a great fit for me and my family. It’s close to Boise,” said Ogata, who has a younger brother and sister. “I kind of like the bigger school atmosphere, and it’s Pac-12 baseball. I really loved all the coaches and the people I met down there, they were great.”

Ogata, who also is the starting quarterback on the Knights’ football team, batted .536 with five home runs and 38 RBIs last season. He also had offers from Santa Clara and Dixie State.

See Wednesday’s Idaho Statesman for more on Ogata’s commitment.
