Avalanche danger continues through weekend

The Sawtooth Avalanche Center reports considerable avalanche danger throughout the mountains from Sun Valley to Stanley and over into the Soldier Mountains.

In fact, the center reported Thursday that a snowboarder suffered injuries after being caught in an avalanche out of bounds in Baldy sidecountry at Sun Valley.

The rider was rescued by the Sun Valley Ski Patrol.

“We are heading into a period of elevated danger and unusual avalanche activity,” the center’s web site said Feb. 13 and extra caution is needed by skiers, boarders and snowmobilers through the holiday weekend.

The Payette Avalanche Center is reporting moderate avalanche danger for the mountains around McCall.  Slopes steeper than 35 degrees will hold a moderate hazard Feb. 14.
