The Ada County Historical Preservation Council has selected a recipient for this annual award that recognizes properties and sites that played important roles in the county’s history and culture.
The council selected the Dennis Sallaz Home at 1000 South Roosevelt St. in Boise to receive the 2014 award because of the home’s historic value and its owner’s work to preserve it.
The Spanish-style house dates to 1928. The Schlofman family used the property as a horse ranch. The Sallaz family bought it in 1971. The Sallazes have maintained many of the original light fixtures, windows, tile, iron work and hardwood flooring throughout the home.
A sign will be on display in front of the home indicating its status as a county treasure. The council will also honor Dennis Sallaz and the Sallaz home at a ceremony at the Kuna Library (457 Locust Ave.) at 6:30 p.m. May 15.
