A busy summer on K-12 issues: What can we expect?

I’ve posted a new piece at Idaho Education News looking at two key groups that will spend the summer focusing on K-12 issues.

The first is Gov. Butch Otter’s education task force, which has been meeting since January and will begin a statewide round of public forums in Nampa Wednesday. As Senate Education Committee Chairman and task force member John Goedde puts it, the task force is about “a mile wide and an inch deep.”

The second is a legislative “interim committee,” which hasn’t yet been named. The committee could focus first on labor issues — the subject of some heated debates during the 2013 session. House Minority Leader John Rusche is skeptical about what will come of the summer process. “We’ll see how people respond to having a thumb put in their eye.”

How will these groups differ — both in membership and in mission? And what should Idahoans expect from these two groups? Here’s a link to the story.
