5th Annual Artist for Kids event will raise money for Robert Manwill scholarship fund

The community of New Plymouth is remembering Robert Manwill, the 8-year-old boy who died from child abuse in 2009. This annual art auction, now in its 5th year, is raising money for a scholarship fund. The fund will go to members of what would have been Robert’s graduating class at New Plymouth High in 2019.

More than 50 works of donated art will cover the walls of the VFW Hall in New Plymouth on Friday. The auction is from 6 to 8 p.m. The hall is at 114 S. Plymouth Ave.

Registration is also open for two races that will also benefit scholarships in Manwill’s name. The Manwill Mile begins at 10 a.m., Saturday at Kiwanis Park in New Plymouth. The 5K Robert’s Run begins at 10:30.

Register online.

Art auction items include a circular, 8-foot diameter, garden gate (pictured below).

Members of Robert’s class — now 7th graders in New Plymouth — designed the gate with the help of metal artist Pattie Young. Welding students at New Plymouth High fabricated the gate based on the 7th graders’ design.
