The Humane Society of the United States is offering a reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to the identification, arrest and conviction of the person who shot a dog found in Caldwell last month.
Here’s a story we did in February about the dog, who was nicknamed “Winnie” by shelter veterinary staff.
A release from the HSUS offers some more clues about Winnie’s past. She was found near Rule Steel, off of Middleton Road in Caldwell. Authorities determined that the dog, previously known as Katana, was reported missing from her home in Oreana (almost 60 miles away from where she was found). Deputies notified her previous owner, who surrendered the dog to the shelter.
The Canyon County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the shooting. Anyone who has information is asked to contact Lt. Donia Ballard at the sheriff’s office: 454-7531.
I have a call out to Barb Hutchinson at the Canyon County Animal Shelter, and I will update you on Winnie’s progress — if she’s ready for adoption, or already found a new home.
