4th Annual Warm Hearts, Toasty Toes sock drive collects thousands of pairs for Boise charities

Icon Credit Union and the Girl Scouts of Silver Sage collected nearly 3,500 pairs of socks for donation to those in need.

“This year’s sock drive was by far the biggest one yet,” said Icon President and CEO Connie Miller. “We’re absolutely overwhelmed by the outpouring of support from the community for this important cause.”

The recipients of the socks include Big Brothers, Big Sisters, the Boys and Girls Clubs of Ada County, the Women’s and Children’s Alliance and the Boise VA Homeless program.

“We chose a wide variety of charities to ensure the greatest impact of the sock drive,” Miller said. “From children to elderly veterans, thousands of individuals across the Treasure Valley will get some much-needed clothing due to the donations from our members and the community.”

The Warm Hearts, Toasty Toes sock drive ran from November 12, 2013 – January 18, 2014 and paired girl scouts from the Girl Scouts of Silver Sage with Icon volunteers to create a variety of donation events to bring in socks. Altogether, nearly 100 scouts participated, together with 30-40 adult volunteers, from troop leaders to Icon employees and girl scout troop parents. The sock drive also received support from the Boise Towne Square Mall, Fred Meyer, Costco, Payette Brewing Company and Joe’s Crab Shack.
